On a beautiful fall afternoon, we met at Sistas' House!

On a beautiful fall afternoon,

we met at Sistas’ House!

We met at Sistas House. This sounds like something referring to a family gathering. That is exactly what it felt like, people gathering for food, fun and fellowship.

I was impressed with my first visit to Sistas’ House. It was as charming as I imagine an 18th century boutique would look like. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, a perfect setting for our networking agenda.

Our host was Genasha Cotton. She introduced herself as Gigi and informed us she was co-founder of Sistas’ House, God was the founder. She said the Sisters with Style purpose is grounded on biblical promises. She spoke about her business, saying she dress people for a living. She spoke of the importance of dressing the outside as well as the inside.

The camaraderie at Sistas’ House started to intensify as everyone started exchanging information. The atmosphere was exciting with the delightful aroma of good food and the buzz of people getting to know one another.

Chatting with Gigi, I could feel her power. She said she was a domestic abuse thriver. She paused, making sure I understood she said thriver not survivor. She then told me she wanted to give this word to another person. Her pain created this word so I told her the word belonged to her. She agreed.

I cornered Spark Plug because I knew he would share some great information. I was not disappointed. He talked about the power of starting small. He said People You Need to Know Magazine started on little sheets of notepaper.

Deborah Simon, a member of Sistas House shared her passion for designing jewelry. She realizes her passion conducting workshops that allows young adults create their own special jewelry.

Mother of the House, Sister Shirley spoke passionately about helping the homeless. She told us she waited on God’s word before moving forward. She posed the question if we knew the difference between a panhandler and a homeless person. Her question caused some serious thought among everyone present.

Our guest speaker, Nancy Lewis discussed “walking in my purpose”. She said say in your lane and do what you do well.

Her system of using one pocket for cards to give out and another pocket for cards we receive was one of many helpful tips. She stressed the importance of professional business cards, as they represent our business. She said she doesn’t give everyone her card. She suggested we prepare to network by having a purpose. She taught the importance of learning to say NO to events and people not beneficial to our purpose.

What I found most intriguing was her philosophy of “looking at how she can match people” while networking. Her presentation was so inspiring, everyone wanted more.

Mea Boykins, from Spellman College announced her Student Emergency Scholarship Fund presented three twenty-five hundred dollar awards.

Kimberly Anthony referenced her business saying “I do what people don’t have time to do,” she proclaimed “I’m your girl”.

Linda Brooks, the nonprofit lady suggest entrepreneurs learn the advantages of having a non-profit arm.

Attorney Safiya Byars spoke about her seminar for immigration education. She said it was two hours of legal help for fifty dollars. This sound like a great investment of money and time.

Our photographers of the day, entrepreneurial-couple Patrick and Carline Robertson exhibited beautiful wedding treasures and special events they photographed.

Julius Brown representing Atlanta Black Business said his company concentrates on re-directing money in the black community.

Betty Reeves passionately shared her rising from domestic violence to facilitate workshops for broken relationships.

Our facilitator, Sebrena The Networker gave accolades to Sparkplug for benefits many were receiving from the People You Need to Know Magazine. She said the title alone speak volumes. She told us her platform is taking on a life of its own because networking is more than just bringing people together.

She stressed the importance to keep believing. She said no one can take what Gods gives us, but it is our choice to seek it. In her signature style, she had us hold hands to signify the power of unity saying growing relationships is as easy as holding someone’s hand.

I believe the entrepreneurs attended this event for three reasons. We anticipated meeting like-minded professionals. We expected to establish mutual rewarding relationships. We desired to learn ideas, strategies and concepts to grow our businesses. On a beautiful fall afternoon at Sistas’ House, these were realized and so much more.

I remain grateful for the opportunity to expand my writing style and look forward to other events of this caliber.
